Dear President Biden and Vice President Harris –
We urge you to sanction the network of corrupt officials, criminal enterprises, and economic elites who have systematically undermined democracy in Guatemala.
As people of faith, we stand with the Guatemalan people and their struggle for free elections. The world is watching Guatemala and Guatemalan elites are paying close attention to how the U.S. and other countries respond to election manipulation. Financially sanctioning corrupt officials and business people who conspired to rig the Guatemalan elections sends a loud and clear message that there is a cost to dismantling democracy in Guatemala.
