At a time of widespread food insecurity and hunger in Haiti, this decision will decimate the entire agricultural economy of Gros Morne, and will impact an estimated 150,000 to 200,000 small scale producers across the country. In addition to the producers who grow the mangos, many families are involved in the washing, handling, and transport parts of the supply chain. These families depend on this income to send their kids to school and buy the food they need to survive.

The resolution calls for ensuring that U.S. government-sponsored investment and international financial loans do not go to corrupt businesses and government entities, investigating and freezing the financial assets of corrupt individuals in the U.S. financial system, and suspending military assistance.

NGOs call for Loss and Damage Action at COP27
Vulnerable communities should not be left with the burden of addressing and paying for this loss and damage alone. This burden should be additionally borne by developed nations—the ones who are responsible for the majority of greenhouse gas emissions that have resulted in the climate crisis.

We call on governments to urgently commence negotiations to develop and implement a Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty, laying out a binding global plan to: end expansion of any new coal, oil or gas production; phase-out existing production of fossil fuels in a manner that is fair and equitable; and ensure a global just transition to 100% access to renewable energy globally.
