Urge Congress to support robust funding to assist vulnerable countries adapt to climate change and shift to a renewable energy economy.
When Congress convenes next month, it will be tasked with passing a budget for 2025 by September 30. In June, the House of Representatives passed a foreign relations appropriations bill that prohibits funding for the Green Climate Fund, Clean Technology Fund, and Loss and Damages Fund. These funds are designed to help the United States meet its commitments at recent international climate talks to assist countries most vulnerable to the harms of the climate crisis.
Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns joined 63 other organizations in a letter urging the Senate to reject these cuts and instead safeguard and invest in international climate finance.
We know that since the United States is the highest historical emitter of greenhouse gases, providing assistance to the countries most hard-pressed by the climate crisis is the right thing to do. It is important that your Senators and Representative hear this message from you before funding runs out September 30.
