Write to Congress urging a Farm Bill that considers climate change and addresses world hunger.
This morning, May 23, Congress begins the first edits on a Farm Bill that will renew an agriculture program until 2029. The Farm Bill ought to have been renewed last year, but funding was temporarily extended another year without changes in order to avert a government shutdown.
The House has released a first draft of the new Farm Bill, and while the bill has support from United States industry, faith leaders are concerned that it lacks climate priorities such as funding for methane emissions reduction, carbon soil storage practices, and soil conservation research. In some cases, the bill diverts climate funding to other business interests. It also fails to take into account the power of the Farm Bill to address global hunger, affecting the security of people around the world.
Use the form below to write to your members of Congress to urge a Farm Bill written for people and planet, not for industry alone.
