American Dream and Promise Act, Farm Workforce Modernization Act, Afghan Adjustment Act - It is conceivable (if unlikely) that these legislative bills will be able to return in the next congresses in undiluted form, but there is no justification for needlessly postponing the accomplishments for another several years.

We are all aware of the elections held this past Tuesday, yet there is work that remains to be done before the new members of Congress are ever sworn in. Legislation may still be passed by the current Congress up until Jan. 3. If legislation is left pending by Jan. 3, its progress will be wiped clean and work will have to restart anew.
Here in Washington, we are looking at three specific items of immigration legislation that have already come a long way and that we would like to see enshrined in law.
HR 6 - American Dream and Promise Act
Protects "Dreamers", young people who have DACA temporary status.

HR 1603 - Farm Workforce Modernization Act:
Addresses employment visas to reflect the fact that over half of farm laborers in this country are undocumented.

S 4787 / HR 8685 - Afghan Adjustment Act:
Creates a means of processing Afghan war refugees and offering more than their current insufficient-and-expiring protection status.

It is conceivable (if unlikely) that these legislative bills will be able to return in the next congresses in undiluted form, but there is no justification for needlessly postponing the accomplishments for another several years.
So while we wait on the election results to be tallied, and we look to the incoming members to set their priorities, there is still work that you can do right now, regardless of the election results. It is time-sensitive work (Thanksgiving and Christmas lie between now and then) but it is essential work. We hope you will join us in urging Congress to meeting these milestones.
