October 4 is the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi, and also the last day in the Season of Creation, the ecumenical season wherein we renew our commitment to care for our common home.
But our commitment to nature does not end today. Our common home cries out to us, with the bitter devastation of hurricanes and weather patterns stronger and more deadly than ever before. Since May 2023, every single month has been the hottest that month has ever been, but the world continues to add to the green house gasses in the atmosphere.
To close the season, we wanted to offer a few resources:
- Recording of the Season of Creation Prayer Service for Saint Francis of Assisi
- Statement by Bishop Luis Rafael Zarama of the Diocese of Raleigh asking for prayers during Hurricane Helene recovery
- Policy Brief: "Climate Change and Care for Creation" from the Maryknoll Office for Global Concerns
- Webinar: "Faithful Stewardship of Creation" for Wednesday, October 4, 6pm ET
- Sign a petition to President Biden requesting United States leadership at the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference COP29 from Interfaith Power and Light
We hope that we may build on the progress our society has made and that we foster a greater commitment to God's creation for all God's children.
