The wildfire smoke millions of people on the East Coast breathed last week was yet another dramatic wake-up call to the reality that climate change is happening not tomorrow, but today.
Only days before the smoke arrived in Washington, DC, Congress and the White House agreed to speed up the permitting process for the Mountain Valley Pipeline, a controversial pipeline that would carry natural gas across West Virginia and Virginia – over the opposition of local residents and climate activists who bravely wore masks in the smoky air outside of the White House to say “No!” to the Mountain Valley project and any new fossil fuel pipelines.
Take Two Actions for The Climate
Pope Francis says world leaders “must listen to science” and “transition to end the era of fossil fuel.” The Holy Father has called permits for expanding fossil fuel infrastructures “absurd” and asks us all to raise our voices.
The good news is that saying "No" to fossil fuel development and funding can actually stop climate destruction in its tracks.
- Join the Vatican in signing the Fossil Fuel Non Proliferation Treaty
- Tell Congress to pass the Fossil Free Finance Act, which would require big banks to stop financing greenhouse gas emissions by 2050
